Peel the onion, slice thinly, and then cut into shorter strips cross wise to leave you with indidually thin onion strands about an inch long.

Saute in oil with the sugar replacement on very low with a lid covering the onions until they brown very dark.

Stir very often.

Add the rest of the ingredients and simmer until you are ready to eat.
